PNB FARMER'S TRAINING CENTRE

To fulfill the objectives of PNB Farmers Welfare Trust it was decided to establish PNB Farmers’ Training Centres in different states where the farmers, rural women and rural youth may be trained. Accordingly, letters were sent to different State governments requesting them to allot 7-8 acres of land for establishment of PNB Farmers Training Centres.
CMD of the Bank is the chairman of the Trust and Trustees include the Executive Director and General Managers of the Bank.
SPECTRUM OF ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN BY PNB FARMER'S TRAINING CENTRES
-
To disseminate the latest technological developments in agriculture and allied activities amongst farmers for increasing production and productivity.
- To educate and motivate farmers for adopting better cultivation, animal husbandry, plant protection, bio-technological, storage and marketing practices.
- To apprise farmers with Bank's schemes, systems and procedures for raising loans and savings.
- To educate farmers for upkeep and maintenance of tractors by supplying literature and holding seminars/workshops.
- To educate farmes on various technological developments in agriculture and agro-processing.
- To educate farmers for undertaking scientific and progressive farming.
- To assist/help/guide the farmers in switching over to cash crops to undertake income and employment generating activites in rural areas.
- To undertake extension work for fulfillment of above objectives.
- To conduct field work and to organize workshops on tractor maintenance in collaboration with agriculture departments, agricultural universities and tractor manufacturing factories.
At present three Farmer's Training Centres are already functional in the states of Haryana,Punjab and Uttar Pradesh and various others centres are coming up. The position is as under :
- FTC Sacha Khera, district- Jind, Haryana
Haryana is the first State to allot 8 acres of land at village Sacha Khera, district Jind. The above training centre has already been constructed and was inaugurated on 16.11.03 by Hon'ble Chief Minister, Haryana, Shri Om Prakash Chautala.
Since inception till July 2004, more than 1850 farmers, women and rural youth have been trained in the above Training Centre.
Besides, Animal Health check up camps are also being organized.
One visit of a group of 18 progressive farmers to Herbal Park, Yamuna nagar, Haryana was conducted.
Development of Village Sachakhera as a Model Village
Door to door survey of the entire village was undertaken and family profile, as per standardized format, of all the families residing in village Sachakhera have been prepared. In several meetings with the villagers and the Sarpanch, the developmental activities to be undertaken in the village for making it a model village was discussed.
Accordingly, the list of activities and their financial outlay, both Fixed and Recurring, was also prepared. The Trust Board, in its meeting held on 29.07.2004, has sanctioned an amount of Rs.5.0 lacs ( Rupees Five lacs ) only for the developmental activities to be undertaken in the village. The implementation will be started soon.
One Adult Literacy centre is also being run by the Trust in the village.
- FTC Vidisha,MP :
The state government of Madhya Pradesh has also allotted land at Vidisha and Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony has been held there on 13.02.04 by Hon'ble Chief Minister, MP Sushri Uma Bharti and our Chairman & Managing Director Shri S.S.Kohli.
The construction work has already been started there and going on in full swing.
Process is on to identify a village for developing the same as a model village.
- FTC Saifai, district- Etawah, UP
8 acres of Land has been allotted at village Saifai, Etawah, UP by the State Government. The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony was held on 16.02.04 by His Excellency President of India in presence of His Excellency Governor of UP, Hon'ble Chief Minister of UP Shri Mulayam Singh Yadav, other ministers and our Chairman & Managing Director Shri S.S.Kohli.
The construction has started there on 11.08.04.
- FTC Labhandihi, district- Raipur, Chhattisgarh
The State Government has allotted 7 acres of land.
The construction work has already been awarded but due to incessant rain the construction could not be started.
FTC Neemrana, district- Alwar, Rajasthan
8 acres of land has been allotted by the State Government.
The construction work has been started there on 11.08.04 and is going on in full swing.
Development of Village Neemrana as a Model Village

In several meetings with the villagers and the Sarpanch, the developmental activities to be undertaken in the village for making it a model village was discussed.
Initially, as per request of the Sarpanch and villagers the repairing work of a very old village Tank, which is being used for bathing, cattle uses, religious purposes etc., was undertaken at a cost of Rs.3.51 lacs ( Rupees there lacs and fifty one thousand) only. The work has been completed.
Other developmental works are also being finalized.
- FTC Sirhind ( Shameshernagar), district - Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab
Possession of 5 acres of land has been taken by the Trust.
Tendering process has been initiated for construction work of the FTC building.
- FTC Sikaddi, district - Ara, Bihar
8 acres land is being allotted by the State Govt.
- FTC Sidhbari, district - Dharamshala, HP
Proposal to allot land has been cleared by the District collector, Dharamshala and the same has been sent to the Commissioner for onward submission to the State Secretariat.
- National Agro Foundation , Tamil Nadu
PNB has donated Rs.25.0 lacs to make the above training centre operational.
- FTC Sholapur, Maharashtra
The proposal to allot land for establishment of FTC is under active consideration of the State Govt.

Other proposals
We have also sent request letters to few other State Governments to allot land for establishment of PNB Farmers’ Training Centres.
Corpus of the Trust
Corpus of the Trust as on 23.07.2004 was Rs.6.96 crores.
OBJECTIVES OF THE TRUST :

To educate farmers for up keep and maintenance of tractors by supplying literature and holding seminars.

To conduct field work and to organise field workshops on tractor maintenance in collaboration with Agriculture Deptt., Agricultural Universities and tractor manufacturers.

To formulate and implement a scheme namely PNB Farmers' Welfare Fund Scheme, meant to provide financial help/assistance for maintenance and repairs of the tractors for ensuring their proper running and long life to the extent as may be decided by the Trustees provided the farmer is not getting assistance for the same purpose from any other institution.

To do extension work for the development of agriculture including audio-visual and other latest aids.

To make scheme for arranging visits of farmers to other states/countries for dissemination of knowledge and exchange of view.

To organise and establish workshops and tractor training institute for farmers.

To establish training centres/institutes for providing training to farmers on tractor maintenance, driving and other aspects of agriculture development and rural employment.

To establish a library on agriculture and rural development.
-
To organise and assist in the organisation of human health and cattle health improvement programme in the rural areas.

To train rural youth to improve their skills and motivate them for self employment in rural areas.

To organise Farmers' Clubs, Youth Clubs and Children's Clubs in rural areas.
-
To assist establishment of non-conventional sources of energy like Biogas, Windmills, etc.
-
To undertake other activities allied to the above objects.

Construction and maintenance of drinking water projects in rural areas and in urban slums including installation of pump-sets, digging of wells, tube-wells and laying of pipes for supply of drinking water.

Construction of dwelling units for the economically weaker sections.
-
Construction of school buildings primarily for children belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society.
-
Any other programme for uplift of the rural poor or the urban slum dwellers, as the National Committee may consider fit for support.

Establishment and running of hospitals and medical facilities in rural areas exclusively for women and children up to 12 years of age.
