Q. what is the average productivity of milk in India?
Ans-Within India, milk yields vary widely. On one end are herds in institutional farms, reared under modern management, with an average yield of 2,000-3,000 kg and at the other end are village-reared dairy animals, their output averaging just 400-800 kg.

Q. What is the reason for low productivity of milk in India?
Ans-
Low productivity is due to the gradual breed deterioration from general neglect over centuries, and the consequent rise in the population of non-descript cows (80%) and buffaloes (50%). Chronic shortages of feed and fodder coupled with their poor nutritive value also lead to lower productivity as well as poor fertility of dairy animals. The effect of better breeding can be largely negated if animals are not properly fed.

Q. What is Cattle Trespass Act?
Ans- - To prevent the damage of crops by the stray cattle, a central act, known as Cattle Trespass Act was passed as early as 1781 for regulating the trespass of the cattle. The act deputizes the state governments to take steps for checking the damage caused by stray animals.

Q. what is the recommended age of calving for cows?
Ans-Ideally, young animals should have their first calf and enter the milking string at 24 months of age. In this environment, they should calve by at least 30 months of age. To accomplish this, the growing calf must be fed better. This would include feeding dry feed up to six months of age since a calf younger than this doesn't have the rumen capacity to process much wet feed. The dry matter intake would need to be high in energy (more grain and less forage) and higher in protein plus plenty of vitamins and minerals.
